Frequently Asked Questions
Below is a list of frequently asked questions that the Inman Community Fire Department often receives. If you do not see your question below, please contact our station Monday through Friday during business hours at 864-472-3944 or email us at inmancommunityfd@gmail.com
What are the burn laws in your fire district?
If you live outside of city limits, the SC Forestry Commission has mandated that all controlled burns must be reported to the commission which can be done online or by calling 800-777-3473. Burns must consist of only yard debris such as grass, leaves, and wood. Equipment must be present to prevent the quick spread of fire and the fire must be monitored as long as it is burning. Details on burn ordinances, burn bans, rules, and online notifications can be found here.
What number do I call if I need the Fire Department but it is not an emergency?
If there is no emergency, you can contact the station at 864-472-3944 or contact the non emergent dispatch line at 864-596-2222 if you are unable to contact the station. If there is an emergency, dial 911.
What do firefighters do when they are not responding to calls?
While not responding to calls, crews will perform routine maintenance on firefighting apparatus, repair and clean equipment, perform daily company training, participate in daily strength and conditioning training, participate in community risk reduction work, complete pre-fire plans and inspections, and complete academic coursework. It is important to note that crews are on shift for 24-48 hours at a time, so personnel do sleep at the station while on call.
How do I get a copy of an incident report that Inman Community Fire Department responded to?
In order to receive a copy of an incident report, call the station at 864-472-3944 and we will be happy to assist you in getting the report. You may pick up a physical copy of the incident report at our HQ station located at 150 Windmill Hill Rd. It is important to note that some information may be omitted from the report due to HIPPA restrictions. Information may need to be court ordered in order to get detailed information such as Patient Care Reports.
Why do I see fire trucks from other fire departments responding to the ICFD fire district?
ICFD participates in multiple automatic aid agreements. These agreements help alleviate staffing issues in our own and neighboring districts by sending apparatus and personnel to assist on incidents. Some agencies that we frequently work with include but are not limited to Campobello Fire Department, New Prospect Fire Department, Holly Springs Fire Department, City of Inman Fire Department, Tyger River Fire Department, and North Spartanburg Fire Department.
Why did I see a fire truck with lights and sirens go through a red light and after, turn them off?
Many incidents have many units responding to the same location. When another unit arrives on the scene, they may find that other units are no longer needed. When this is determined, the responding units may be cancelled or told to respond non emergent in order to minimize risks associated with driving emergent traffic. This is when apparatus will turn their lights and sirens off suddenly on the road.
Why do you block multiple lanes of traffic at traffic accidents?
FD members may block multiple lanes of traffic in order to ensure that all people involved in the accident, as well as firefighters and EMS, are safe to perform life saving measures without the risk of being hit by cars. As the population in the ICFD area have grown, the increase in vehicle traffic makes it important to keep the road blocked in order to ensure that nobody is injured.
Why is the fire department eating at a restaurant or shopping at the market?
ICFD full time staff works on a 48/96 rotation. This means that firefighters work for 48 hours at a time. During this 48 hours, crews may not have enough food at the station to sustain them for the full time. This is often when you will see firefighters eating at a restaurant or shopping for food at the store.
Does ICFD install smoke detectors?
Yes, ICFD firefighters would be happy to install smoke detectors in your home. Please contact the station at 864-472-3944 during business hours and we will schedule an appointment to install them.
Does ICFD install car seats?
Currently ICFD does not have any car seat technicians that can legally assist you in installing a car seat. We plan to implement a program to get these certifications soon. Until then, North Spartanburg Fire Department is the closest department that we can recommend to assist you.
Does ICFD provide any training or education services for the public?
ICFD provides fire extinguisher training upon request and plans to start a "hands only CPR" training in the near future. To make a public education request, contact the station at 864-472-3944 during business hours and we will begin plans to make an appointment.
